Low-Cost Euthanasia Program
Euthanasia is viable and proper option for many horses. At US Horse Welfare and Rescue (USHWR), we understand that the cost of euthanasia can be very high. It can seem easier to just sell your horse to a local trader. However, it is more than likely that your horse will ultimately be sent to slaughter. We want to help you and your horse avoid this tragic ending. We will soon be offering no-cost to low-cost euthanasia to those who qualify. If you feel that you may qualify for this assistance, please fill out and submit a completed application. Your application will be reviewed by our committee and you will be contacted. If this is an emergency, please contact us at 860-593-4298.
Safe Surrender Program
We are currently working to develop a program for owners who are no longer able to care for their horse/equine and can safely surrender it to us. An assessment will be completed by a veterinarian who will determine the appropriate action for the your horse/equine, such as re-homing, re-purposing, re-training, or euthanizing. We work hard to do as the owner wishes for their horse/equine whenever possible. If you are no longer able to keep your horse/equine and would like our assistance, please fill out and submit a completed application. Your application will be reviewed by our committee and you will be contacted. If this is an emergency, please contact us at 860-593-4298.
Branding and Microchipping
We are currently establishing guidelines for low-cost branding and microchipping clinics. Check back soon for updates. More and more people are recognizing the value of a small, well placed freeze brand on their horses and a microchip with the horse's data (including ownership) to help keep the horses safe from slaughter.
