Troop Horsemanship Programs

Discover Horsemanship with US Horse Welfare & Rescue

Bring your troop—Brownies, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, or American Heritage Girls—for an immersive and hands-on introduction to the world of horses. Our programs invite participants to tour the barn, learn essential horse care skills, and earn official patches or badges through engaging, educational experiences. Required: minimum of 4 participants.

Horse Basics Patch

$40/participant

Duration: 1 to 1½ hours, depending on size of group

Step into the heart of the barn and experience life behind the scenes! You’ll get an up-close look at our daily routines, learn the safety practices that keep both people and horses happy, and discover the fascinating basics of horse behavior. We’ll guide you through essential horse care—from grooming techniques to handling equipment—with plenty of hands-on opportunities to connect with our gentle four-legged partners. While this program does not include riding, you’ll walk away with new skills, confidence, and memorable moments spent working directly with horses.

Horse Care & Rider Badge

$70/participant

Duration: 2 to 2½ hours, depending on size of group

Take your horse knowledge to the next level with this exciting advanced course! You’ll build on everything from the Horse Basics Patch while diving deeper into the world of equines—exploring horse anatomy, common health and wellness topics, and the many career paths in the equestrian field. You’ll gain hands-on skills in tacking and untacking, then put your learning into action with a mounted experience that includes supervised pony or horse rides. To top it off, enjoy an inspiring riding demonstration from one of our skilled instructors. This is your chance to expand your skills, boost your confidence, and experience the thrill of working with horses in a whole new way!
