WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM YOUR RIDING LESSONS

From beginner to advanced, Western, English Hunt Seat, or Dressage, any age, our instructors have got you covered. Here you will find yourself connecting with your horse on a very different level. Our philosophy of incorporating natural horsemanship encourages our riders to achieve a deeper bond with horses. Through this bond they discover how to better communicate with horses, learning to speak to them without so much as a word, and hence accomplishing great things in the saddle.

At USHWR horses are never tools or instruments...they are instead, our partners. They provide constant feedback to the rider, we just need to learn how to listen. USHWR also helps riders recognize the impact of their thoughts and emotions on their connection, the horse, and their riding. Our philosophy of horsemanship allows our rescues to “just be a horse” for several months when they arrive. As a result, we find our horses are happy to be in work, relaxed, tolerant, make great teachers, and are very receptive to riders.

USHWR now offers English Hunt Seat and Western riding lessons for ages 4 and up. We also offer Dressage lessons for ages 6 and up on specific days.  Our oversize outdoor white sand arena is now complemented by our new indoor covered arena, permitting us to ride and work with the horses year-round.

While we strive to provide every private lesson rider with 30 minutes in-saddle time, there are instances where this is not feasible. Very young riders and newer riders often can not participate in a full 30 minutes in-saddle. They also require more on-ground teaching to learn about safety, grooming, etc, therefore you can expect the 30-minute private lessons for these individuals to be a combination of on-ground and in-saddle time until the student has reached a certain level of proficiency. For our more experienced riders, we ask that you get there 20-30 minutes early to get your horse, have quality time grooming and tacking up before your lesson. Post-lesson you usually have the opportunity to untack, lightly groom, perhaps feed a treat or two to your horse before you walk them out to their paddock with assistance. Beginner riders are always given 30-minute private lessons in order for them to get the individualized attention necessary to ensure their safety and permit them to learn more quickly. More advanced riders may choose to take lessons as 30-minute private, 45-minute semi-private,  or 1-hr group (3 or more riders).  45-minute and 1-hour privates are also available on request.
